Casing Hammer (ARCH) Drilling in California and Nevada

Temporary casing driven through loose soil, alluvium and conglomerates on a 50,000 lb GEFCO rig, for environmental and geotechnical projects. Our own rigs and crews since 1982.

Air Rotary Casing Hammer (ARCH) is made for loose ground. We drive temporary casing down through unconsolidated soil until we reach a consolidated formation. Then we switch to air or mud rotary and drill to total depth.

How ARCH works

One multipurpose rig does all three steps.

  • Drive: a hydraulic Atlas R6000 casing hammer drives threaded casing down

  • Drill: air or mud rotary takes the hole to total depth

  • Pull: hydraulic casing jacks pull the casing as the borehole or well is completed

Where it fits

Our operators break through almost any unconsolidated formation.

  • Unconsolidated soil

  • Alluvial soil

  • Tough conglomerates of soil and rock

  • Drill spoils routed into drums or roll off bins

The rig that does this work

  • GEFCO Speedstar 50K-CH casing hammer rig with its mast up on a hillside job site

The multipurpose rig behind our casing hammer work: 50,000 lb rated capacity, topdrive air and mud rotary, a hydraulic Atlas R6000 casing hammer and casing jacks, a 1,050 psi, 350 cfm air compressor and a 1,400 gallon mud cleaning system.
